A California-based company has released "disposable cell phones." These phones can be purchased at some retail stores for $40 and are intended for users who do not want to deal with contract plans or pre-paid plans. The customer purchases a phone that comes with a toll free number (to eliminate long distance charges) and 60 minutes of talk time that can be used to receive or make calls. Dallas-based Alon USA which operates Fina gas stations and a 7-Eleven outlets in the Southwest is testing an m-commerce system which allows customers to pay for gas using their cell phone. The method is simple: pull up to the pump, call a number on your cell phone and receive an authorization code that you put into the pump which will allow you to pump gas.
