What is CES? CES stands for Consumer Electronics Show. It is an annual show held in Las Vegas, and this year it was held from January 9th-12th. According to CEA, this year attracted 2,283 exhibitors, 1.25 net million square feet of exhibit space, and 116,687 attendees, making this the biggest CES of all-time. As the name suggests, the show covers consumers electronics items. Many companies use CES as an opportunity to showcase prototypes and next generation products. Who Was There? Virtually every major electronics company had a presence at CES this year. These companies included Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, DishNetwork, DirecTV, TiVo, and Zenith. Keynote addresses were delivered by Bill Gates (Chairman and Chief Software Architect, Microsoft Corporation), Kunitake Ando (President and COO, Sony Corporation), Craig Barrett (CEO, Intel Corporation), and Tom Engibous (Chairman, President, and CEO, Texas Instruments). Transcripts are available at the CES website. What Was There? There were many, many, many halls, and inside each hall was many, many, many exhibits. We scoured through the convention center and made sure to visit all the major exhibitors as they frequently have an edge when it comes to research and development. We've listed what we thought were four of the most impressive products/innovations, many of which are not available in the market yet.
Samsung Home AV Center Concluding Thoughts
Needless to say, the field of
electronics holds promise for exciting times ahead. We are starting
to see a convergence between the TV and the computer. Increasingly,
computers are being used to add more functionality to the TV like digital
recording and media playback. Another amazing facet of electronics
is emerging -- audio/video distribution. This technology allows for
the distribution of audio/video signals throughout the house (or
building), eliminating the need to purchase an entertainment center for
every television or display set. Instead, one entertainment center
can serve many sets. Lastly, versatility is being added to high
definition signals. Consumer-level high definition PVRs have been
almost non-existent. We will see them in the market this year.
This is the beginning of a technology golden age for the television. About Us | Privacy Policy | Disclaimer | Services | Contact Us Copyright © 2002-2003 Technologies 4 Homes, Inc. All Rights Reserved. |
